A 5,000-pound standby generator had to be installed beside the historic Menil House without disturbing the mature tree roots that define the Menil campus landscape.

APPROACH

M designed a raised structural steel platform to carry the generator clear of grade, sizing supports and foundations to avoid the protected root zones.

VALUE

The elevated steel platform delivers the required standby power while preserving the campus's heritage trees — a structural solution shaped by a landscape constraint.
