Pepe Monarrez founded M to build the kind of structural engineering practice he always wanted to lead—one where principals remain close to the work, ideas are openly discussed, and every important decision is shared around the same set of drawings. He led teams at large practices in the United States and Mexico before building one of his own, and he has taught structural design at the University of Houston, where the habit of explaining engineering decisions clearly became part of how he leads.

Clients work directly with him. He sets the technical direction on every project, asks the uncomfortable questions early, and accepts final responsibility for the answer. Inside the practice he spends most of his time mentoring — encouraging debate, challenging assumptions, and holding every drawing to one engineering standard.

He believes the strongest engineering comes from developing people as much as projects. Mentoring, encouraging technical discussion, and helping engineers grow are central to his leadership, and he measures success by the strength of the team as much as the quality of the work it produces.
