A USACE-commissioned renovation and new construction of warehouse and administrative infrastructure at Peru's principal naval base in Callao, with M as structural subconsultant to Page.

CHALLENGE

Renovating warehouse and administrative infrastructure at Peru's principal naval base required quantifying foundation risk — shallow footings with ground improvement versus deep piles — under documented seismic liquefaction and a high water table, in a marine-corrosion environment, to dual US and Peruvian codes.

APPROACH

M's proposed scheme used steel girder framing with marine anticorrosion coatings and sulfate-resistant Type HS cement concrete, with the foundation strategy deferred to a bidder's geotechnical interpretation given the liquefaction and groundwater uncertainty.

VALUE

The work framed the base's foundation risk and a corrosion-durable structure for a design-build bid; M was structural subconsultant to Page. The engagement is proposal-stage and the detailed building system was not finalized.
